Co-presented by O Cinema and Oolite Arts, Art Films presents the best of films by and about artists paired with brunch and followed by a post-film discussion. The screening of BETYE SAAR: READY TO BE A WARRIOR will be followed by a post-film discussion with Director/Producer Angela Robinson Witherspoon, Co-Producer/Cinematographer/Editor Abdul Malik Abbott and Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami’s Assistant Curator, Amanda Morgan. ICA Miami’s exhibition Betye Saar: Serious Moonlight is open until April 17, 2022.

THE FILM

“I’m an ordinary woman who does extraordinary things”

At age 94, Betye Saar is finally receiving the recognition she deserves for her career spanning the last six decades. Hailed as a pioneer for her collages and assemblage art, and influential in the Black Arts Movement, Saar is known for reclaiming and remixing black history. BETYE SAAR: READY TO BE A WARRIOR chronicles the life of Saar and focuses on a period of time (2014-2021) where she received unprecedented recognition in the contemporary art world. Art has become the family business.
