With the gorgeous, lush but rough black and white photography that would represent the American Indie style of the 1980s, Gus Vant Sant’s debut documents his hometown of Portland Oregon within the world of a wandering romantic (Tim Streeter) and his fascination with a particular Mexican immigrant (Doug Cooeyate).
