FREE DISCUSSION THIS SATURDAY Join us on Saturday, Aug 29th at 3pm for a discussion with photographer and filmmaker Lisa Leone about the early days of Hip-Hop.  Scroll down for more details.

In 1987, five young men, using brutally honest rhymes and hardcore beats, put their frustration and anger about life in the most dangerous place in America into the most powerful weapon they had: their music.

Taking us back to where it all began, STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON tells the true story of how these cultural rebels—armed only with their lyrics, swagger, bravado and raw talent—stood up to the authorities that meant to keep them down and formed the world’s most dangerous group, N.W.A. And as they spoke the truth that no one had before and exposed life in the hood, their voice ignited a social revolution that is still reverberating today. F. Gary Gray directs this biopic about the rise to stardom for the act that earned the moniker of “The World’s Most Dangerous Group”, featuring Ice Cube’s son O’Shea Jackson Jr. playing the role of his father, Corey Hawkins as Dr. Dre, and Jason Mitchell as the late Eazy-E.

**FREE DISCUSSION THIS SATURDAY**
Join us on Saturday, Aug 29th at 3pm for a discussion with photographer and filmmaker Lisa Leone about the early days of Hip-Hop.
From Nas in the first studio recordings for what would become Illmatic to Snoop on the set of his first video, from ingénue Debi Mazar hanging on the stoops of the West Village to Grandmaster Flash at a RockSteady reunion, Leone’s photographs open portals to the sounds, places and, most important, the people who forged and continue to influence the energy that is hip hop.  Recently published in the book ‘Here I Am’,  Leone had a front row seat for the birth of modern day Hip-Hop and with her camera captured the early career of some of the biggest names of the genre.   Admission to the conversation is free but tickets are required for the 3:45 screening of ‘Straight Outta Compton’

Straight Outta Compton is among the most potent rags-to-riches showbiz movies ever made.
– NEW YORK MAGAZINE

It plays like a Marvel superhero movie had Marvel been run by Suge Knight.
– ROGEREBERT.COM

If “Compton” is undeniably of the moment, it’s also timeless in its depiction of how artists and writers transform the world around them into angry, profane, vibrant and singular personal expression.
– VARIETY

If any film should be forgiven its excesses, it’s Straight Outta Compton, which is about the clashes and camaraderie among men whose unruliness sparked a cultural moment that was beyond their ability-and their willingness-to contain.
– NPR

It’s a story driven by classic tensions: struggle and triumph, division and conquest, group and individual.
– NEW YORK TIMES

Besides the movie’s weight in our contemporary, post-Ferguson historical moment, Straight Outta Compton may also be the funniest, most exhilarating and flat-out best Hollywood movie of the summer.
– GLOBE AND MAIL

One of the summer’s most entertaining and provocative movies.
– NEW YORK POST

This is one of the better musical biopics of the last 20 years… The casting in Straight Outta Compton is universally pitch perfect, including brief cameos by Keith Stanfield as Snoop and Marcc Rose as Tupac that are fantastically spot on.
