Michelle Yeoh is a critically acclaimed and highly respected actress who has made a significant impact in the film industry, demonstrating her versatility and range as an actress through various roles in action, martial arts, dramas, and comedies. She is particularly known for her performances in films like CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON (screening on 4/12) and the James Bond film TOMORROW NEVER DIES. Yeoh’s dedication and commitment to her craft is evident in her extensive training in martial arts and other physical disciplines, allowing her to perform many of her own stunts and action sequences, adding realism to her performances. She also brings authenticity to her performances through her deep understanding of the cultures and traditions represented in her films. Yeoh’s ability to deliver moving performances in dramatic roles, her work with respected directors, and numerous accolades, including a BAFTA nomination and a Golden Globe Award for her performance in EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE (screening 3/8), have solidified her reputation as a trailblazer for Asian actors and one of the greatest actors of all time.

O Cinema’s monthly series, SEASONED ACTORS, celebrates the work of an actor that has greatly contributed to the cinematic culture of our lifetimes. And to kick off the 2nd year, our first season of 2023 will be honoring the work of the trailblazing MICHELLE YEOH!

To infiltrate a drug cartel, police Inspector Chan Ka Kui (Jackie Chan) goes undercover in a Chinese prison. There, he earns the trust of Panther (Yuen Wah), a cartel member, by breaking him out of prison. With the help of another undercover agent (Michelle Yeoh), they travel to Hong Kong and join up with Panther’s gang. Ka Kui is accepted by the gang’s leader (Ken Tsang), but his operation is jeopardized when Ka Kui’s girlfriend (Maggie Cheung) accidentally reveals his true identity.

Michelle Yeoh’s performance in the film is notable for her portrayal of a strong, capable police officer who is able to hold her own in action scenes alongside Jackie Chan. Yeoh’s character is also shown to be intelligent and resourceful, using her police training and tactics to outsmart the villains. Yeoh’s martial arts skills and physical abilities are prominently featured in the film, particularly in a memorable fight scene where she fights multiple opponents on a moving train. Overall, Yeoh’s portrayal of Jessica Yang adds a significant amount of depth to the film and compliments Jackie Chan’s signature comedic and action-oriented style perfectly.

“The most powerful starring role for a woman this summer? My vote goes to Michelle Yeoh in this garish, frenetic, and funny chopper from Rumble in the Bronx director Stanley Tong.”
– ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY

“Chan is joined in this outing by a female co-star, Michelle Yeoh, who seems every bit his equal when it comes to martial-arts prowess and foolhardy daredeviltry. Taken together, they’re like watching two 007’s…”
