Overview

Diaspora Pa’lante Collective (DPC) is a grassroots organization of Puerto Ricans and allies in the diaspora and archipelago dedicated to the independence and complete liberation of Puerto Rico. DPC South Florida members are excited to present present a film screening of “Mataron a Pedro” this month at O’Cinema South Beach.

Mataron a Pedro is the untold story of Pedro Albizu Campos, the father of Puerto Rican nationalism. In the 1930s, farmers turned to a young Black Harvard educated lawyer, to fight for them, despite a political machine in Washington determined to silence them. The film asks the question: for whom is democracy crafted for?

Following the film screening will be having a Q&A with Debbie Perez, host of @borikenpodcast, who served as a producer of the film. Her work focuses on enduring the film honored the legacy of Pedro Albizu Campos snd Laura Meneses while creating meaningful opportunities for dialogue, education, and cultural connection.
